In-Hospital Surgical Procedures

For complex or advanced vascular conditions that require inpatient care or general anesthesia, Dr. Masabni performs a range of surgical interventions at our affiliated hospitals. In these cases, you can be confident that the same expert surgeon who guided your diagnosis and in-office care will also perform your surgery, ensuring continuity and excellence in care. Our hospital-based surgical services include:

Carotid Artery Endarterectomy

A traditional vascular surgery to prevent stroke by removing plaque buildup from the carotid arteries in the neck. By cleaning out these blockages, we restore proper blood flow to the brain and greatly reduce the risk of a stroke. This is one of the most effective and commonly performed vascular surgeries for stroke prevention.

Surgical Creation of Dialysis Access (Fistula or Graft):

An open surgical procedure to create a long-term dialysis access for patients with advanced kidney disease. We either connect an artery and vein (forming a fistula) or implant a synthetic tube (graft) under the skin, usually in the arm. This provides a reliable, high-flow access point for hemodialysis, ensuring effective and efficient dialysis treatments.

Lower Extremity Arterial Bypass Surgery

An open bypass surgery to restore blood flow to a leg when blockages are too extensive for angioplasty or stenting. Using either the patient’s own vein or a synthetic graft, we create a new pathway around blocked arteries in the leg. This surgery is often performed for limb salvage – to heal foot wounds and prevent amputations in patients with severe peripheral arterial disease.

TransCarotid Artery Revascularization (TCAR)

A newer, less invasive alternative to open carotid surgery for patients at high surgical risk. During TCAR, we place a stent in the carotid artery through a small incision near the collarbone. A special system temporarily reverses blood flow in the carotid during the procedure, greatly reducing any risk of stroke while the stent is being placed. TCAR combines the benefits of stenting with enhanced safety measures for stroke prevention.

Open Surgical Repair of Aortic Aneurysm

A traditional open surgery for large or complex aneurysms of the aorta that cannot be treated with stents. Dr. Masabni makes an incision to directly access the aorta and replaces the weakened section of the artery with a durable surgical graft. While this procedure has a longer recovery time than EVAR, it is sometimes the best and safest option for certain aneurysms to ensure a complete and lasting repair.

Anterior Spine Exposure

A specialized service where our vascular surgeon works in tandem with spine surgeons. In certain complex spine surgeries (for example, lumbar spine fusions from the front), Dr. Masabni provides access by safely moving aside and protecting the abdominal blood vessels so that the neurosurgeon or orthopedic surgeon can operate on the front of the spine. This collaboration ensures that spine surgeries can be performed safely with minimal risk to major blood vessels.

Visceral Artery Bypass or Embolization

Rare, highly specialized treatments for diseases of the major abdominal arteries, such as the renal arteries (to the kidneys), mesenteric arteries (to the intestines), or splenic artery. Depending on the condition, we may perform an open surgical bypass to reroute blood flow around a blocked artery, or an embolization to block off an aneurysm or bleeding in these vessels. These procedures can restore blood supply to vital organs or prevent life-threatening hemorrhages and aneurysm ruptures.
